Ton Up?

With the '75 build complete, we set out into the Wisconsin back country to open 'er up and see what she'd do. The 500T's were rumored to be able to make the ton with little or no modification, but we needed to know what this one would do, after all the performance uhpgreydez that have been installed, our hopes were as high as we were.

The video sucks, but the bike is kick ass! This is clearly "The Fastest Model Available" with dual overhead cams, 500cc's, and a 5-speed suicide shift, she's built for speed! The speedometer had been removed to save weight and without other instrumentation we have no idea how incredibly fast this bike actually is, but by pacing with a lesser bike that was equipped with a velocitometer we determined that the 60mph was top gear at 4600 rpm. Therefore, 120mph would be 9200 rpm (well below redline), and 100mph would be about 7700rpm. After a little practice doing starting launches it was time.



For the unofficial run the bike was able to turn an indicated 8000rpm in top gear as it sped past the official timing camera, which if you believe the 30+ year old tachometer would be ton+.

Now that the technology has been proven, it is only a matter of time before Ducati and the rest of the GP teams will be calling. The price to license this amazing new development has yet to be determined but with the cost of prefamulated spamulite as high as it is, we think $100 billion would be a good place to start. After all not just anyone can nub together a supernatient wingle sprocket with the semibolid slots of the stator, and this advancement will be costly!
